Fertility & Reproductive Wellness

Personalized support for your path to parenthood

Peony starting to bloom

Your fertility journey is personal. Your care should be, too.

The journey toward parenthood can bring hope, anticipation, uncertainty, and sometimes profound heartache. Whether you are just beginning to try to conceive, navigating an unexpected fertility challenge, preparing for IVF or IUI, or exploring your options after previous treatments, you deserve compassionate care that recognizes the whole person behind the fertility journey.

At Blossom Wellness Centre in Elmhurst, Illinois, Karen Stringer, L.Ac., Dipl. OM, FABORM, offers individualized fertility support rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine and informed by your unique health history, goals, and circumstances.

With more than 18 years of experience in integrative wellness, Karen combines acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and personalized treatment planning to support your reproductive wellness. Care may also incorporate Abdominal Therapy and other complementary approaches when appropriate.

Our intention is to provide a thoughtful, supportive space where you can feel heard, understand your options, and take an active role in your care.

You don’t have to navigate this journey alone.

Fertility Support Through Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine views reproductive health within the context of the whole person. Rather than focusing on a single symptom, treatment considers patterns involving your menstrual cycle, overall constitution, stress, digestion, sleep, and general well-being.

Your care begins with a comprehensive conversation about your health history, fertility goals, menstrual patterns, previous pregnancies or fertility treatments, and any relevant medical evaluations.

From there, we develop an individualized approach that may include:

  • Acupuncture: Personalized treatments based on your Chinese Medicine assessment and current needs.

  • Chinese herbal medicine: Individualized herbal recommendations when appropriate, with careful consideration of medications, fertility treatment protocols, and pregnancy safety.

  • Cycle-aware care: Treatment planning that takes your menstrual cycle and reproductive treatment schedule into account.

  • Lifestyle and wellness guidance: Practical recommendations related to rest, stress management, nutrition, and supportive daily habits.

  • Abdominal Therapy: Specialized, gentle hands-on care that may be incorporated when appropriate to your needs and treatment stage.

Your plan is designed around you—not a one-size-fits-all fertility protocol.

Trying to Conceive Naturally

Support for your natural conception journey

When you are trying to conceive, it can be difficult to know what to focus on, especially when month after month brings more questions than answers.

Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine can offer a complementary approach to caring for yourself during this time. Treatment is individualized according to your health history, cycle patterns, and wellness goals.

Your care may include:

  • Acupuncture tailored to your individual presentation

  • Support for menstrual cycle awareness and general well-being

  • Chinese herbal medicine when appropriate

  • Guidance on stress management, restorative practices, and sustainable self-care

  • Coordination with your medical provider when fertility evaluation or additional testing is indicated

We recognize that fertility involves many factors, including ovulation, reproductive anatomy, sperm health, age, and other medical considerations. Complementary care can be part of your overall plan, but it should not replace an appropriate fertility evaluation.

If you have been trying to conceive without success, we encourage you to speak with a reproductive healthcare provider about the right time for evaluation. You do not need to wait until you have exhausted every natural approach before seeking answers.

Acupuncture Alongside IVF and IUI

Complementary care through assisted reproduction

Choosing IVF or IUI can involve a significant physical, emotional, and financial investment. Acupuncture may be incorporated into your broader wellness plan while you work with your reproductive endocrinologist or fertility clinic.

At Blossom Wellness Centre, we can tailor treatments around your individual circumstances and, when applicable, your clinic’s treatment schedule.

For patients undergoing IVF, care may be coordinated around:

  • Ovarian stimulation and monitoring

  • Egg retrieval and recovery

  • The period leading up to embryo transfer

  • The waiting period following transfer

  • Emotional well-being throughout the process

For patients undergoing IUI, care may be planned around:

  • Cycle monitoring and ovulation timing

  • The insemination schedule

  • Your individual wellness needs during the treatment cycle

Acupuncture is offered as complementary care—not as a replacement for fertility medications, monitoring, embryo transfer, or other recommended medical treatment.

What does the research say about acupuncture and IVF?

Research on acupuncture and assisted reproduction has produced mixed findings. Some studies have reported potential benefits, while others have found no meaningful difference in pregnancy or live-birth outcomes.

The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health reports that a 2021 review of six studies involving 2,507 participants found no difference in pregnancy or live-birth rates between acupuncture and sham acupuncture during IVF. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine has likewise noted that acupuncture around embryo transfer has not been shown consistently to improve live-birth rates.

Acupuncture may still be meaningful to individuals seeking complementary support during a demanding process. However, we do not promise that acupuncture will increase your chances of pregnancy, implantation, or live birth.

Our focus is on individualized care, your overall well-being, and working respectfully alongside your fertility team.

Male-Factor Fertility

Fertility is a shared journey

Fertility challenges do not belong to one partner alone. Male-factor considerations—including sperm count, motility, morphology, and other aspects of reproductive health—can play an important role in a couple’s fertility journey.

Chinese Medicine and acupuncture may be explored as complementary wellness approaches for men who are trying to conceive. Care is individualized and may take into account general health, stress, sleep, lifestyle, and relevant medical findings.

Research into acupuncture for male fertility has examined outcomes such as sperm count and motility. However, the evidence remains limited, and it is not yet possible to draw firm conclusions about whether acupuncture improves fertility or the likelihood of a live birth.

We encourage appropriate evaluation by a qualified medical provider, including a semen analysis when indicated. Acupuncture and herbal care should complement—not replace—medical investigation and treatment.

Partners are welcome to participate in the conversation about their shared fertility goals.

Abdominal Therapy & Reproductive Wellness

Gentle, individualized care for the abdomen and pelvis

Abdominal Therapy is a specialized, hands-on approach that may be incorporated into your broader wellness plan when appropriate.

At Blossom Wellness Centre, Abdominal Therapy is offered with attention to your comfort, health history, and individual needs. It may be considered as part of supportive care for people exploring reproductive wellness, menstrual health, or abdominal and pelvic concerns.

This work is not a treatment for blocked fallopian tubes, endometriosis, or other structural causes of infertility, and it cannot guarantee improved fertility. Certain conditions and stages of fertility treatment or pregnancy may make abdominal work inappropriate.

Your suitability for treatment will be discussed before proceeding, and care will be adapted to your circumstances.

BaZi Root Analysis: A Deeper Look at Your Personal Blueprint

An optional perspective on constitution, patterns, and timing

Your fertility journey is part of a much larger life story.

BaZi, also known as the Four Pillars of Destiny, is a traditional Chinese metaphysical system that interprets birth information through the Five Elements and the relationships between them.

At Blossom Wellness Centre, BaZi Root Analysis offers an opportunity to explore your traditional elemental constitution, emotional and stress patterns, and personal themes through this distinct framework.

For individuals navigating fertility, a consultation may include reflection on:

  • Traditional Five Element and constitutional themes

  • Emotional patterns and responses to stress

  • Personal cycles and timing as understood within BaZi

  • Questions about family-building and life transitions

  • Individual wellness goals and possible complementary care options

BaZi is a traditional interpretive practice, not a scientifically validated fertility assessment. It cannot determine whether or when conception will occur, predict pregnancy outcomes, or replace medical evaluation.

For those who find meaning in this perspective, it can provide a reflective framework for exploring personal priorities and navigating a significant life chapter.
